To the guys who own a JB2 AND an L2000...

I recently got a Trib. JB2 which came with Daddario EXL strings. I also have a Trib L 2000 which I've strung with TI flats. I love the flats, but I'd forgotten how nice the zing of roundwounds can be.

I know the ideal thing is to have the best of both worlds, so any opinions as to which strings would be best suited to which bass.

I know I can just experiment, but I'd like to hear your opinions.

I did not like DA XLs on my ash / maple Tribute L2K. I much prefer TI Superalloys. TI flats were good as well. On my basswood / rosewood / maple topped L2500, I liked DA XLs just fine.

Ir the trib is a premium body/ transparent finish (Ash), I would go either TI Super Alloy's or TI Jazz flats. If one bass is a solid color, likely a Basswood body, I would stick with rounds on that one. Flat's might get a little too undefined in the low end. That was my experience on a recent Trib SB-2 anyway.

The MFD 'buckers in the L series are a great match for the detail that the TI strings provide.

If both are transparent finish, premium bodies - then flats on the JB-2 to help tame the pickups and rounds on the L2K would be my choice.

There is no best IMO as they both work on either bass. I've talked to a couple of people who only like flats on their L-2000 basses because the aggressive nature of the instrument keeps them from sounding as mellow as they would on other basses. Ed Friedland mentioned here not too long ago that he uses flats and a foam insert on his L-2000 in a latin context.

I've been waiting to put flats on m L-2500, and will do so soon when I take ownership of a second 5 string. Right now the L-2500 is my go-to bass, so I can't give up the rounds on it just yet.
