Hardcase Fits ASAT Like Glove

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings fellow G&L enthusiasts. I thought that I'd posted a picture of my newfound friend a few weeks ago. It turns out that I can't find it on a search. Senior moment. Now, would AARP stop sending me applications. It's becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Anyway, I have been a G&L enthusiast for the past few years. I have never played the bass before, but had considered giving it a try if the right one came along. Then, one fateful night on craigslist, the Belair Green 92'ish ASAT showed up for a price I couldn't refuse. It came in a nice Levy's gig bag but I really felt it deserved a hard case. So, I started searching, realizing that it would probably be a very long time before I found a good fit. To find the original type case would be a pipe-dream at best. So this past Saturday, while perusing c-list again, an ad shows up for a hard case that is claimed to fit a MusicMan, ErnieBall, or G&L bass. I emailed the guy quickly and took a 40 minute drive to deep Los Angeles. I placed the ASAT in the case and it fit like it was made for it, with the case having a padded section that fit the lower inside curve like a glove. I'll include picture(s) that will include one with a string used for contrast to show how the case fits the curve. There is little, if any movement from side to side and the length is perfect. It's black tolex with plush black lining, accessory pocket at hinge side on the upper left with case open and facing you, has "Cheney" hinges, 4 hinges across the back, and silver-ish piping. Is this the case made specifically for an ASAT? It sure fits like it. Thanks.

Maybe I should rephrase the post to read, "Would it be possible for someone who owns an earlier ASAT bass in an original tolex case to post or email me a picture of the inside of the case?" Anyone? Thanks.

Sweet, glad to see you found the perfect case for your asat. Just curious though, how much did you pay for her? Thinking about getting oen myself.

Hi thejrace,
I really got a good deal on the bass. I got very lucky with someone who probably bought it before G&L's went up in price a bit over the past few years. The seller probably got back what they paid and felt good about it.
I suspect that fair market value for the bass is 2-2.5 times what I paid for it, perhaps a bit more. Probably the same ratio for the case. I got the case for $55. I'm open for other takes on those valuations. Cheers.
