On an unrelated note, anybody know how to get a good harsh, non-musical, metallic, pingy, overtone in their sound?

Great discussion

I finally decided that I had, had it with the spring noise L 2500 Newer model {2 years} ( Pinging sound ...) Did some recording and all you could hear was the pinging... yuk
Took off the strings and unscrewed the Pickup, as I was removing the Pups I could hear the spring noises just unscrewing the pickups. I stuffed some foam inside each spring. Screwed the Pups back in and Voila..... no pinging noise.

again thanks for the Tip.... It make a great bass even greater.

Yes this took less than 30 mins

Yamaha/Ibanez bass + ART SGX Nightbass + Peavey power amp

(Okay, I know I'm gonna get flamed for that one)

Sure ....

Same process take the pickups out and make sure there is no foam around them .... the springs are huge and have a pingy tone.If you take the foam out the springs come in contact with the back of the pickup plate. You could put in more springs .....

I'm still scratchin my head as to why ....just use an effect processor if you need a ringing tone.
