HELP! What strings for my new JB-2?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not happy with the stock strings on my JB-2. To me, they sound a little zingy and a bit lightweight in the lower registers.

I'm using the JB-2 as my main slap instrument (I use an SB-2 w/ TI Flats for finger style) so flats are out of the question.

Is there a set of strings that work well for slap and have some heft in the lower bass frequencies?

Thanks

With my JB-2, the pickups are so hot & the body/neck is very rigid, so it really brings out the zing in strings -- it was difficult to get the way I wanted it -- everything seemed too bright. I did end up with TI Flats, but I went thru a couple sets before settling on those. However, once you get the JB settled in, you'll have trouble putting it down.

I've got TI SuperAlloys on a couple other G&L basses (but not the JB-2) and they work well for slap & have real fine low end...a nice ballsy grind.

I'm with earlgray on the SuperAlloys. I use TI flats on my fretless L-2500 and the Superalloys on my ASAT.

I loved the DR SS Lowriders on my '92 MIA Jazz.... but after 16 years of using them, I'm not liking what they're doing to my frets. So I'm changing to nickel before a fret job becomes necessary. I don't like the Nickel Lowriders.... I have D'Addarios on it now, only because I got them for free.... I have a huge 18 year beef with D'Addarios QC.

I'm thinking of trying the TI SA's.... I have the JF's on my SB1 and SB2, and absolutely love them. I'm hoping to be just as impressed with the SA's.
