How is the Tribute L2000 neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a jones for the tribute l2000 but the only thing i'm not sure about is the neck. i switched to jazz size necks because the bigger necks were hurting my hands. i see the tribby l2000 neck is 1.75 at the nut. any owners willing to comment?

thanks!

I think the numbers speak for themselves. It's a chunky one.

I have tried the L-2000 standard neck (USA and Tribute) and found it too thick.
Picked up a USA L-2000 with a #8 neck (1.5" at the nut) and could not be happier. With the skinnier neck the L-2000 is the most ergonomically correct bass for me that I have found yet.

thanks for the info guys!
yep, i think i may either go with a jb2 or get the l2000 and get the neck slimmed down. there are some fine luthiers in my town. the only thing about the jb2 would be the single coil thing-i have heard rave reviews about the tone so i don't know if i'd want to replace them....

I conside hte JB-2 to be the weks link in the line at G&L. I've had 2 and while they were both impeccably crafted - they just didn't have 'it' goin' on. An SB-2 I had did. I've had a number of L2K, USA and Trib. The Trib does - it's on it;s way to Norway and an L2500 is on it's way here.

Yeah - the Trib L2K neck is pretty big but for some reason I fond it comfortable - and I'm a J guy ... Partly it's because I play the Trib in a rock band setting and I tend not to play as much. More emphasis on my picking and rhythm in that setting. My roots rock trio setting has nme a busier player. The guitarist is hte lead singer and he's got his hands full so I'm a lot more active melodically there. In that setting a J neck or my Reverened is my weapon of choice.

Now on to to convince Dr. Cheese to give away his JB-2.

Don't forget the Trib SB-2 has the jazz sized neck and people rave about it's sound.

I used to own one and I don't remember it feeling especially chunky. It is 1.75" at the nut but the neck profile is fairly thin. It isn't like any of the Precision bass necks I've played wich are both wide and thick. I am a five-string player, though, so I'm comfortable with wider necks.

i actually have a trib SB-2 and i like it a lot! but i also really dig the sound of the l-2000. i want to have both. i'm greedy.

I played a '92 USA l2000 today at a shop and it was great--i opened the back up to see the electronics and WOW! i can't believe all the stuff that is going on in there!

a local shop got an l2000 tribute the other day and i measured the nut and it was 1 5/8" NOT 1.75 like the website says. i wonder if they changed or if it has always been 1 5/8?

Same here on all 3 of the L-2000s I've picked up in the last few months (both Korean and Indonesian).

Interesting, because when I tried a Tribute L-2000 it didn't feel like a 1.75" nut. It felt almost just like my 2004 American Series Precision, which has a 1 5/8" nut. I found it very comfortable, and was surprised when I visited the site to see the 1.75" spec. Guess they have it wrong.

Weird. If it has a 1 5/8" nut then that's great. I always preferred that size and the older G&Ls have them.

I love the nut size on my L2000 Trib, my long fingers have a much better time on it's 1 5/8 nut neck than on my 1.5 nut Highway 1 jazz.

I saw a couple of used japanese made ASAT tributes up for sale a little while ago, here in Denmark. They're essentially L2000s with a tele body and 1.5 at nut neck, so its a pitty those arent in production

Just measured my recently acquired L2000 Tribute...it is 1.75 inches-well, I just broke out the caliper...it's 1.713(neck width at the nut).

Hmmmmm.... We have been bugging them to bring that width back. Be nice that if they did they would mention it.
