I don't know if it has been ever asked here, but if James Jamerson were buying a G&L what model would he buy?

He'd still be playing his completely beat P bass.
Current issue: SB2 is close,
older, the L100 is prolly closer.

Probably the SB-2 but he'd want the #5 neck.

Gotta agree with Chef here, Jamerson would still be playing the '62 P-bass. After he moved to L.A. along with the Mowtown operation, he is reported to have lost session dates due to his refusal to switch to round-wound strings. Such a mindset would not switch instruments without a fight. Were he still alive today, I'd be willing to pay money to see him play that P-bass strung with flats.

I'd be willing to pay to see him play anything.

We all know that he'd be playing the Fender, but on the off chance that he goes G&L he probably wouldn't be playing any of the current models. He'd be playing a custom made in the style of the LB-100, one of the few G&L signature models.

I'm thinking L1k/Climax. If he switched he's trying something different, yes? I think he'd love the big-yet-tight sound of that pickup and the simplicity of controls. He'd have it strung with TI Flats, of course.

I respect that man's playing & ear so, so much. He was always....perfect.

I don't know what James would do, he was apparently pretty set in his ways as to strings, set-up, etc. He came from playing upright before he defined bass guitar.

But thinking about Jamerson lines as played on an L2K (or better yet, the magnifico ASAT!!) would be a thing of beauty to hear with the tone for days of the MFD's...
And through a B-15 in the studio....
Wow.What a concept.

dunno about Jamerson, but check out Graham

I don't know about Jamerson, but check out this video of Larry Graham on a vintage L-2ke.

A twin to my '81 L-2ke, including slots.

enjoy..

Yep, not only that but it would be strung with the same set of La Bella flatwounds it had when he passed on.
