JB-2 Neck Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking at purchasing a Tribute JB-2 bass. It's the sunburst with the maple neck. My question is I like the neck of the amber model with the rosewood/ lacquered, but I asthetically like the look of the maple.

Does the neck play like a music man maple neck? If so that was fine, but I would prefer a little bit faster neck.

Is there a way to make this neck a littel faster? Newbie questions I know. I really like this bass. I played it today and it was perfect!

Thanks

No, it will play like a G&L Tribute neck. Compared to the EBMM Sterling, the advertised neck profiles are similar. However, the finishes are different. The Tribute will have a poly finish compared to gun oil/wax.

If it's perfect, all you need to do is play and get used to it.

Every bass is a little different, even two of the same model. If the back of the neck is glossy and you prefer a satin feel, you can GENTLY rub it down with 0000 steel wool to knock the gloss down a bit. Just be gentle and take care to keep the dust & steel wool shreds away from the pickups and moving parts.

If I have the neck switched at the factory to the rosewood is that considered customizing?

If you try to do this after purchase, it will cost you quite a bit, and then you may as well buy the U.S. model. If you want rosewood, just buy/order it that way.

You'll need to go through a G&L dealer. The Tributes don't have different nut width and fretboard radius options like the U.S. models.

Yes, that is considered customizing. And it won't happen.

One of the many reasons that the Tribute line is less expensive than the Fullertons is that there are NO customization options available. You get to choose from what they make and that is that.

If you want a different neck profile, you'll have to get a USA (which ain't a bad thing). If you want a different fingerboard wood, look for someone to swap with.

Any "B" stock neck options for necks or Bass. I mean the MII seemed really well made. Is there a huge difference with USA model?

Huge difference? Not necessarily. Certainly a notable difference. I've played both and MUCH prefer the USA.

No "B" stock and G&L does not sell necks. I mean, whattaya want for that kind of price? It's a bass that is easily the equal of AmStd Fenders for a pile less money. If you're looking to really cheap out on the bass, perhaps used is your best option.
