JB-2 USA vs. Tribute

Sign in to disble this ad
I had the chance to try out a USA JB-2 recently and now find myself with major GAS.

I'm a Jazz bass guy and the JB-2 i tried looked and felt perfect the moment I saw and held it. I also really like the "full bodied" tone.

Major stumbling block = WAY too much money for me to spend right now. Then, doing the research, I've discovered there are Tribute models of the JB-2; way more affordable

You can probably see where I'm going with this:

What are the key differences between the USA and Tribute JB-2?

Is the sound similar enough (I know, very subjective)

What would you recommend, the rosewood or maple board? The one I played was maple.

Is the quality of the Tributes consistent enough I could feel confident ordering one (i.e., not seeing or trying it until I've pulled the trigger)

Thanks!

The Tributes are a great value. The differences are covered on various other posts. If you can't afford a U.S. model the Tribute is a great alternative.

Tribs are nice. You will not be disappointed.

I have owned one.

Street is approx $450.

Suggest you check with your local dealer.

I got my used JB-2 here on talkbass for around $600. It's in perfect condition.

Maybe look around for a used one for a while, and if you can't find one, then get a Tribute.

I like mine though.

Can't comment on the tribute since they do not make the JB in a lefty but I have two USA JB-2s and love them both. Great basses.
