G&L Bass ForumAddicts of Leo Fender's latest basses welcome here, as well as those interested in what drives the addiction to the basses from Fender Avenue.
I'm going to be buying a G&L in the next few weeks and I need some advice. I've owned an L2000 Tribute in the past. Great bass, and very versatile. I found myself stuck on passive parallel though, so the series and active options are kind of lost on me. I notice that they're making the JB-2 and SB-2 in Tribute models and they're less expensive. How would the sound of these basses compare to the L2000? I'm assuming the JB-2's pups are single coil and would therefore hum, but how bad is that hum?
Do not know about the tribute but I have a USA JB-2. NO hum with both pickups on. On my main rig minimal hum with one pickup. On my practice rig it hums with only one pickup.

That's what I figured. If I did get one I'd probably replace the G&L pups with Dimarzio Model J's and make it V/B/T. I think I'll go for another L2000. I'm thinking I might replace the pickup switch with a blend pot. It would make the controls a bit crowded, but then I rarely ever play any bass with less than 100% volume. The added versatility would make up for a crowded knob array. I know I'd replace the parallel/series switch with a parallel/single-coil/series switch so I can really cop a J sound if I want.

Try any Jazz style bass with non humbuckers and that will be similar to the JB-2.
If you got the MFD bug and always left your treble up, I'd vote SB-2.
