Question JB-2: Worth saving up for American model?

Sign in to disble this ad
I really want a jazz bass, but am looking for something that's a little more unique than a Fender Jazz, and cheaper than a Sadowsky/Lakland. Thus is my interest in the G&L JB-2.

My question is, is it worth shelling out the extra $400 or so for the American build model, or do you think I would be just as happy with the tribute model? Keep in mind I am totally poor.

Thanks,
_David_

Also, how does the JB-2 compare to say, an MIJ Jazz? Should I get a real jazz bass if that's what I'm going for? I had a line on beautiful 1980s MIJ Lefty on craigslist but lost contact with the guy... I was really bummed P

No choice you have to get a USA. The lefty Tribby's are only available in an L2k.

Well shoot...That's cool, I actually think I might be more interested in the L2K. It was the bass I nearly ordered new for $1200 sight unseen before I found my Carvin LB70 in a store that I could actually play. I fell in the love with the neck and the tone and for $550 in mint-condition I couldn't say no. So the L2K got put on the back burner and nowadays I just have really bad G&L GAS

The Tribby's are well-made, and a good value for the price, but you mentioned "lefty," and that is not yet an option with them. I love my JB-2 Tribby enough to be suffering similar MIA GAS, but there's the matter of actually having enough time to play it. Music has become so back-burner for me lately.

Plus you can always get used USA G&Ls for a steal.....

But of course the leftys are indeed hard to find. Good luck!

Have two JB2 lefties, well worth it. They are great basses.
