Yea..I had to replace my pups. I put in DiMarzio Model J's. I wanted to be able to adjust the poles since I was having string balance problems before. Now it sounds great. i get alot of compliments on the sound. It is very dark though....darker than the Fralins or Ultra jazz's would be. I find i need to bump the treble up on my amp with the Model J's. But for getting a balanced string output....they are the way to go. If not the model J's....find something with raised poles......or other ones that are adjustable. Peace

Man, I *hated* the stock pickups.
Even with flat wounds, the top end was jus too much. Blech.

I put in Nord NJ4's. Very cleassic J sound, big booty, nice smooth top end.
The Fralins are a good choice as well, with a little more top end presence; but I already had a set of those in a Lakland JO5...

Gee, why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?

That really does seem to be the consensus. OTOH, don't most people swap third party pickups into Jazz basses?

I don't have a JB-2, but I've been very happy with Lindy Fralin's noiseless Split-Jazz in my 2003 MIA Fender. They have raised poles under the A and D strings for good balance. The tone is very close to pure single coils, except they have less high end "sparkle," as one would expect. I don't mind, because I roll off the treble some anyway.

If I bought a JB-2, I might try Nordstrand's NJ4SE's for a thick, ballsy rock version of old-school tone.
