Korean vs. Indonesian Tributes

I'm very satisfied with my Korean Trib 2k, and I'm considering a 2500 too. How do the Korean and the Indonesian tributes compare?

Played and owned both. I don't detect a difference.

Er, except the Indonesian has the nicer decal and doesn't scream "TRIBUTE" on the bridge.

Yeah, there is that.

Hi IMO decal and singnature on the headstock depends on the production year. Tribute word on bridge also depend on what batch of parts the bass is made of ...IMO
My Korean had this tribute on bridge but a tiny tiny very little tribute decal on headstock so for the peoples loocking at my bass dosen't see that tribute word.

Question for you all... do g&l still built bass from the Korean shop at same time of Indonesian one, or they transfer all the trib. production to Indonesia? One of my friend just "dance like flipper the dolphin" when he played my trib. L2500 (certainly cause of the color... lol) and he search for the same as mine (Korean). But if there's no more Korean production... he'll buy one anyway even if it'll come from Pluton or March.

Is there any difference in weight from the older Korean to the new Indonesion models?

I have found a used L2500 and the owner states it's 8.5 to 9lbs. Is that possible? I've heard most say they weigh closer to 10 or 11 lbs.

Thanks...Chris

IMHO the weight of a bass depend of what kind wood it's made of. If both are made with swamp ash, it is normal to have a difference in weight cause of the density of this swamp ash, maybe from 8.5/9 to 11 pounds.

I'm assuming there are different models of the Tribby's as some are basswood and some are ash?

Is that the difference in the Premium model?

Edit: Never mind, I found it. Premium models are ash.

Thanks...

My premium bodied (dark, kinda tobacco but 3 color burst) L-2500 is 9.5 lbs - pretty light for a 5'er.

I've had both Korean and Inonesian Trins and I think the Inodesian one's are maybe a little better. the tuners seem to have been upgraded, the neck pocket is a little tighter.

For the most part my Trib's have been amazing bassses for the dough. The only clinker was a standard finish SB-2. Good player, easy setup and a typically well built G&L. Tonally that one and I did not get along though. I blame it on the body but I don't truly know and of course tone being subjective, it may just be a matter of taste.

I just love my JB-2 Tribby. It's my grab & go anywhere bass...for now. I visited the local bassist's candy store today and was completely floored by the new Fender US Standard P-5.

So do the basswood Tribby's sound as good as the ash bodied ones?

Wow, tough question. I have a basswood Tribby SB2 and an ash Tribby L2000. First of all, the basswood SB2 is the most dense basswood that I have ever encountered. I have other basswood basses that feel like a feather compared to the Tribby SB2. The tonality of my basswood SB2 is beyond reproach. The ash L2000 is great, just as well. The basswood SB2 feels like a 'dense' alder. Much more girth than my other basswood instruments (which I also love). Whatever G&L is using/calling basswood is, IMHO, an excellent choice. If the instrument/price fits your equation, don't get hung up on the 'basswood' thing!
