TI Jazz Flats are a natural choice.. Dunlop nickle rounds get good reviews from our own Duke12. I've used DR nickel Lo Riders before with good results. Another flats choice I've stumbled onto by accident is Sadowsky flats; SBF45 on the package. These sound REALLY good on my '84 L2K.

105 ga Chromes on one of mine, sounds gigantic.

Want galactically big? Try Roto 77's in the bigboy 110 ga.

Thanks Templar, Is there any concern with heavier gauge strings and the older G&L necks. Some are prone to raised tounge and twisting? Had a tech warn me to stay with the 45-100's for that reason??

Try 'em and see. They're high tension, so....

I have an early 80's ash version and just put a set of Fender 9050L's on it, they have rekindled my love for this bass. If you would like a deep, smooth, bluesy tone, the 9050L's have it. They are .045, .060, .080, .095, the least tension, sound really deep and feel great too (of course IMHO)

If you prefer higher tension strings, the TI's might not be for you. They are one of the lowest tension strings. Thought you might like to know before you fork out a lot of money for them. Having said that, I love TI jazz flats.

i use DR nickel loriders on my mahogany L1000 (although it is a fretless with an ebony fingerboard.) they are the best tone-wise for my bass that i've tried so far. second best were the Dunlop nickels. they have a beautiful feel (not too sticky, not too slippery), balanced tension, and they sound broken in (but still alive) right away. but they lack the deep "funk" of the lo riders, and the harmonics weren't as rich and bright (although they were close.)
