As the request for L-2000 sound clips yielded such nice results, I was hoping a similar request for L-1500 (maybe even fretless?) sound clips might work...
I'd really like to hear what it sounds like, since I'm thinking about selling my Stingray for one.
I have an L-2000, but I understand the pick-up in the L-1500 is in a different position from the bridge in the L-2000.
So, anybody? thanks! |

I think you can use a DI or the line out from a mixer into the audio in on your computer. The only issue would be going from XLR or 1/4" out to 1/8" or RCA. I'm not an expert and I haven't recorded anything to a computer in several years, but I think this should work.

Meanwhile, I know this guy has an L-1500, but I'm not sure if these recordings are with that bass. Maybe i should ask him, i know. But it's nice music, anyway. But do you think this is an L-1500? http://www.myspace.com/stevehardley |

At least tell me if the bass on that MySpace COULD be an L1500?
Please?

His track also has smoother, slightly fatter lows than I associate with an L-1500. But with the right technique, strings, EQ, and processing, an L-1500 could probably sound like that. I ran mine through a warm 1x15" cabinet and cut lots of treble, and could get close to that neighborhood. The second track sounds closer to an L-1500 to me, especially the higher notes. (IMO, the L-1500 really shines above the 10th fret.) If you're that curious, send him an e-mail to the address on that site, and ask.
Regardlesss, in my opinion, if you want warm and smooth like that first track, many basses will get you there more easily than an L-1500.
Unfortunately my band isn't posting live recordings any more; otherwise I'd try to get one up there for you. They're quite different from the sounds on that MySpace site, because I go for a raw, growly, hard-hitting tone. I even use the active mode sometimes. I've found an Aphex Bass Xciter works wonders for the L-1500.

I listened to them with my headphones, and they made me think of am more organic (or raw?), less electronically pumped up version of a Stingray; wich is exactly what I was hoping for from an L-1500! It's that 'pumped up' quality in my Stingray wich I don't really care for, and I'm on the verge of ordering a fretless one from Matt...
Edit: Oh, and I have an L-2000, and these tracks sound similar to what I imagine the bridge pickup would sound like if it was a little closer to the neck. Could be wrong, though.
Anyway, you're right about emailing him. I just did.

Anyway, the tracks on the MySpace site I posted earlier are in fact recorded with an L-1500. Further more, I found some soundclips on Craig's site recorded with a Climax; but isn't that almost the same bass, apart from the bodyshape? So aren't those clips any indication of the L-1500 sound?
Sorry to bug y'all about this... It doesn't really matter now, because my order for a fretless L-1500 is in!! Now the waiting starts...
