Question L-1500 soundclips?

Sign in to disble this ad
Having a very difficult time finding some and the search isn't very accurate.

It sounds very interesting, I may purchase one. Anyone have a soundclip for it? I'm having a hard time figuring out what it sounds like.

Here's a clip of the bridge pup only on my L2000. Same pup located slightly farther back, bass control rolled off a bit.

Even G&L doesn't have L1500 clips in their audio section.

That sounds pretty good but if that's what the L-1500 sounds like it's not for me.

This L-2000 pickup isn't placed properly to nail the L-1500 sound.

Go to GC and play a 1H Sterling. Try both series and parallel modes. This should give you a fairly close approximation of what an L-15000 or Climax sounds like. It will not feel or play the same, but the sound will be close due to pickup type and location.

This isn't an endorsement of the Sterling, which is a fine bass in its own right. It's just telling you how to hear what the G&L sounds like.

I've played a 1h Sterling....that's kind of what it sounds like? That's way more trebely than I was expecting from the description of that it sounds like a P-bass on roids...

I have an L2K and a fretless L1.5K, and I can say that the bridge pickup on the 2K doesn't sound at all like the 1.5K.

To me it's more like a Stingray or a Sterling, but with the advantage that you can play it passive. That way it sounds more 'organic', for lack of a better word. And of course the MFD sounds different from the 'ray pup. It only gets trebly when you turn on the preamp.

Sorry, can't make a recording...

I agree with Ken that a Sterling is a pretty good approximation of an L-1500, as is the Fender Big Block "Precision." The 1500 can sound similar to a P-bass in a band mix, even though its lows are much tighter, and, relative to a P-bass, it emphasizes high mids more than low mids.

Compared to an L-2000's bridge pickup, it has fatter lows and less "twang," but it's certainly more of a growly "bridge" tone than a fat "neck" tone.

That "P-bass on roids" description is normally associated with the SB-2 and the L-1000 for obvious pickup placement reasons. It doesn't really fit with the Climax/L-1500.

I found some clips from a G&L Climax. It's not being produced anymore, but electronically it's (nearly?) the same as an L1500, plus same pick-up location.
