The L-1500 Treble Boost Mod

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have recently acquired a L-1500 (pictures on the way), and have noticed the treble boost to be awfully bright. Nearly unuseably bright.
I see references via search to a simple mod which lowers the treble to the level of the l-2000, which is preferable to me. Tber snowdan modded his Climax:

i have today modded my climax.

i exchanged resistor R7 from 2.2k to 18k Ohms. that is just a tad mor treble than teh L2K active mode, but still less than the L2K treble boost mode. simply a very good setting to start with. clear attack, good slap but not eardrum-cutting anymore.

Is this the mod for the L-1500 as well? Thank you.

If R-7 is 2.2k then it would apply.

I don't mind the level, but I'd like to move the treble boost freq. center higher on my ASAT & L2k.

You would like those brighter?

Dogs in your neighborhood must cringe when they hear you tuning up.

Actually, moving it higher tends to sweeten it quite a bit. When I did this on my Modulus it removed the trebly shhhinggg and turns it into more of a zing. Easier on my ears.

And my Elkhound doesn't seem to mind.

I had it done to my L1505. Big improvement IMO.

daveplaysbass who joins in here occasionally provided this info. Here is a link to his page about this. https://home.comcast.net/~carol7davi...max_Preamp.doc

Excellent. Daveplaysbass refers to it here a lot, but searches only found links to vintagebass.com, which I guess has ended its G&L forum.

Many thanks.

I have Dave's modded Climax. It's nice.
