L-1500 vs Climax (differences?)

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondering what the tonal differences are. Also, are the #8 necks common on both of them?

I guess I've finally narrowed down my choices between these two basses (if they're tonally similar) and a SB-2...it's pretty much what I can find first. And spideyjg...I promise that I'll try to make it up to Buffalo Bros this weekend!

The L-1500 comes standard with the #7 (as you probably know), and almost every one I've seen on eBay has had that neck. That's not exactly a large sample though, and I know some dealers will order their G&L's with the #8 even if it's not the standard neck (like that L-1500 at Buffalo Bros.). And of course some players order their L-1500's with the #8. So they're definitely out there, but I don't know if they're common. I have an L-1500 and an SB-2, so I'm curious which you prefer.

The L1500 has the same body shape as the L2000 and standard has a #7 neck but is available with a the slimmer #8 neck. The Climax had a more unique body shape and had a #6 neck standard (slim with a 7.5" radius) standard. There also may be something slightly different with the preamp.

I just bought a 93 Climax Red/Black metallic burst, Very cool bass.
Someone has changed the controls bypassed the active circuit. It sounds really good, but i'd like to have it restored. Any chance of getting a clear photo of your bass's control cavity?
