L-1505 or L-2500 for me

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, I 've been doing alot of window shopping and have sold enough gear where I should be able to get back in the G&L club again. I owned an L2500 and stupidly sold it about a year ago. My only problem with the L2500 was the bridge pickup was a little too aggressive for me and both pups full on was a little tame. Neck pup sounded like a P bass. Not my sound. So I'm wondering of an L1505 would be what I want. I have a Schecter bass that will do the polite tone and at sometime will probably own an L2500. So should I grab an L1505 or get an L2500.

I sold my 2500 cos my 1505 totally slayed it. Better clarity, but still enough girth. The 1505 is a sleeper, while the 2500 seems to get all the accalades.

But the 5500 reigns supreme IMO. Just an absolute killer five.

Yeah,I've already been in touch with him. If I can get my cash together before someone else snags it I'll probably buy it.

Got it today and it sounds great. It has the tone that I couldn't coax out of my old L2500. A very defined growl all the way down to low B. Plus lot's of beeefy low end.

Without pictures the bass doesn't exist.

Congrats on the new bass!

Cheers,
Chris

Great looking bass! Congrats! So I take it that on the L1505, the single pickup is just slightly further north of the bridge than the bridge pickup of the L2505 (the so called "sweet spot)? Consiquently, does this set up give the L1505 a sound that isn't available via either pickup on the L2500? Do you ever find that you miss that 2nd pickup at all? Also, how does the L1505 compare to a Music Man SR?

Consiquently, does this set up give the L1505 a sound that isn't available via either pickup on the L2500? Yes, that's the only complaint I had about my old L2500. To me the bridge pup in series comes close to the L1500 but was a little too aggressive and thin sounding. With both pups on in parrallel mode I couldn't quite get the growl out of the low notes that I wanted

Do you ever find that you miss that 2nd pickup at all?Not so far and I don't think I will.
Also, how does the L1505 compare to a Music Man SR? Don't know, I've never played a MM My guess is that it would be similar, bur G&l's have their own sound.
I'm actually thinking about starting a L-1505 appreciation thread on this forum to discuss this bass. when doing a search I've found several negative threads that almost put me off from buying this bass. I'm glad I followed through and bought it but it does have somepersonality "quirks" that could be discussed.

As one who has been bird dogging L-1505's for a while, I'd love to see an L-1505 Appreciation Thread! It will be my next 5ver! It will look like this I hope!

Ah, well, when some things get paid off!

...and, yes, it's a badly photoshopped L2500, but I like it!

That's a decision you'll have to make on your own. See if you can find one of each to try out.
One good thing if you decide to buy one. Look for a good used one. L-1505's are around $600 used sometimes less. I paid $600 for mine which included shipping and it was almost mint condition. The day after I bought it someone emailed me and offered one for $550 plus shipping so I'm thinking that's a pretty good price instead of $1100 or more for a new one.
L-2500's are usually $750 and up used. Of course you never know when you might catch someone who is desperate to sell.

I'm going to order one - have certain options I want - I have the L2500 tribute and like it, just not sure what I'd be giving up or gaining by going with the 1-pickup L1505. I usually play the L2500 w/both pu's on, Parallel, either passive or active - don't know if I'll really miss the active w/hi boost or not since I don't use it much - I read someone say that the active mode on the L1505 seems brighter.

Thanx for any help!
