L-2000 Tribute neck size

Sign in to disble this ad
does anyone here know if g&l plans to make a l-2000 tribute where the neck gets slimmer as it reaches the the headstock. like that of a fender jazz, unlike the wide ones the l-2000 tribute has now. thanks

I don't know what their plans for the L-2000 neck width are, but I sure wish they would offer smaller neck options. I love my L-2000 Tribute, but I hate that 3/4 inch width at the nut. A jazz type 1.5 width would be ideal for me.

I don't see why they would since it wouldn't be economical to change production plans or to add another option on a "budget bass" (I use that term lightly), but you never know... It'd be awesome if they did. I'm a fan of the 1 5/8" nuts of the early G&Ls and the Musicman Stingrays myself. Not too big and not too small.

I'd like to see a redburst Tribute. JB-2, SB-2 (ideal since I'm looking into getting one), or L-2000, doesn't matter to me as long as it's redburst.

The one on the SB-2 is perfect for me. I'd prefer a narrower neck on the L2000, as well, but I don't think it's going to happen. At one time, my small hands dictated that a standard Precision neck was outside of my comfort zone. After playing a 5 string Cirrus (narrow for a fiver) for awhile, wider necks don't seem to be the personal obstacle that they once were. From the specs online, it seems as though the L2000 and L2500 Tribbies share the same neck width.

I don't think it would be much of an economical issue for the factory just to put a five cent L-2000 decal on a SB-2 tribute neck and put the SB-2 neck on an L-2000. I find that the current tribute L-2000 neck is very uncomfortable for me to play. Love the sound of the bass...hate the neck. I have even considered buying a trib SB-2 just to steal the neck. I'll just have to save up and pull the trigger on a custom US.

Wouldn't it be an idea to take the neck to a luthier who could sand it to the favoured shape and refinisch it? At least this would cost less (I assume) than a new neck or a second bass.

The neck width on the Tribby L2000 is kind of a stumbling block for me. If it had the SB-2 neck, I would have already bought one.

Sure hope G&L monitors these forums!

I've played a few L-2000 Tributes, and have played U.S. G&L's with the beefy #7 neck. To my hands, the L-2000 Tribute's neck doesn't feel like a full 1.75" nut width, though I know the specs say it is. I normally balk at those wide necks and don't own a single bass with a nut more than 1.625" wide, but I find the Tribby's perfectly comfortable. Maybe it has a shallower rear profile than the U.S. #7. Anyone else have this experience?

I measured my L-2000 Tribby and it is exactly 1.75 at the nut. I can't comment on the rear profile of the U.S. #7 neck because I don't have one!

I actually had to measure my '03 L-2000 Tribute, because I was sure it was closer to the size of my Fender Jazz bass than a P bass. Sure enough it is 1 3/4 wide, same as the P. It just feels narrower than that. Whatever the measurement, it is comfortable to play and I have no desire to change it.
