L-2500 Tribute: Experience w/slap?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone who owns an L-2500 Tribute and does a lot of slap comment on how "slap-friendly" the bass is re: string-spacing?

I realize it doesn't have the standard 3/4" Fender spacing, so you have to be more careful, but I'd be interested in any "real-world" comments folks might have...

It seems like the main thing is that double-thumbing would be very difficult.

The stringspacing at the bridge is 17,5mm (Stingray5 standard). Because of the fast attack and overall bright sound slapping is very easy.

I find the string spacing a little tight as I'm primarily a 4 string guy. The L-2500 Trib has the tonal variety to support a variety of styles so if you're comfortable with the spacing - it ought to do fine.

I don't have an L2500 (I have an L2000), so I can't comment on the string spacing of the 5 string. But one thing I LOVE about slapping on G&L's is that they have that little bit of overhang at the end of the fretboard after the last fret which is just large enough to rest/hit your thumb on.

Errr....isn't it always? I have found the slap tone of my G&Ls to be pleasing (though still not that EMG-slap that I love) but the string spacing is on the tight side. However, 99.9% of my playing dictates the tighter spacing, so I live with it.

I'm not experienced with a ton of basses, but I find the strings tight when I slap. That being said, I can still do it and don't have significant problems. The electronics make it easy to switch to a slap tone. So, yeah, it's good for slap.
