I purchased a new L-5500, serial number B000055, around 1989-1990. I have read that only 260 were produced and that production serial numbers started at B000500. Anyone know anything about serial numbers below 500? I am also trying to decide about replacing the neck. Got a quote from G&L. It is quite costly but likely worth it in the long run. The instrument has always sounded great and recorded well...quiet as a mouse.

The L-5500 has a 6-bolt neck plate as well as a different serialization scheme than basses with the 3-bolt plates What you read pertains only to 3-bolt basses including the L-5000s (a different model than yours). The L-5500 was introduced in 1993 and was discontinued a few years later.
