L1000 clone

So, since I've been unable to find the G&L of my dreams I've been thinking about making a clone.

The only bass I've ever regretted getting rid of was a beat to **** 83 G&L L1000, it was an early model just when they started using the eye gouger head stock. It was transred and had slotted pickups. I bought it for a whopping $300.

Looking for something to bring me back, and I haven't seen another L1000 in a similar finish in ages so I'm thinking I might make a clone.

What I'm looking for is a wiring diagram of the L1000 controls and preamp. Was also wondering if I can buy all the parts necessary for it online?

Thanks for your help.

PS I'm not planning on making it right now. I'm pretty much broke. Just trying to see if its feasable.

I can't help with the wiring, but I know Ken or Jim will have a link to something; they are like super G&L research librarians or something.

The L1000 doesn't use a pre, so really all you need are the pots, large MFD pickup and a body to drop it all in. Check with Butch at Bayou Audio, he probably offers a wiring harness complete w/ pots- if not I'm sure he could whip one up. You can get the pickup from a G&L dealer or watch the 'Bay for a used one.

(This info's in the FAQ sticky on this very board, FYI. Lots of other great resources there as well.)

I just built a bass using the above linked l-1000 schematic and can confirm it works (albeit with a bartolini mmc). You can order all the parts straight from g and L.

This is titilatting.

Anyone with an L1000 willing to do me a huge solid and measure the pickup location?

I'll probably end up using a Precision style body with the controls routed like an L1000 (warmoth) so I think it'd be a good deal you know?

I'm going to go read some stickies.

On my '84 L-2000, measuring from the rearward edge of the fretboard to the front edge of the front pickup, I get 3.320" on my dial calipers.
