L2000: Alder vs Swamp Ash?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys,
I'm very found of G&L L2000, and I know my next and, I hope, definitely main bass will be a L2000.
So, the finish I really want is Black with maple neck (Black 'n maple bass are simply beautiful...)

But, Black finish is only available with an Alder body (for US models, Basswood for Tribute)...
I know, and plays many times, the most popular model with Swamp Ash body and I am wondering if there is a big tonal difference between the 2?

I'm sure you will be able to help me

(Sorry for my english )

Thanks a lot
Will

Hi, Will!

Your English is perfectly fine.

The standard body wood for the USA L-2000 is alder, and is available only with the standard colors. However, you can special order your L-2000 with an ash body in solid black if that's what you want. You aren't limited to the premier finishes if you get ash.

Of course, you have no choice with the Tributes.

If your local dealers aren't clear on this, please have them contact their G&L rep. Alternately, you can contact Buffalo Bros. in Carlsbad, California, USA. They do ship internationally.

Bass Northwest has a black one with a maple neck used for sale. Decent price also.

Thanks a lot Ken!
I will check items for sale at Buffalo Bros.

Do you think there is a great tonal difference between an Alder L2000 and Swamp Ash?
I found a great deal for an Alder L2000 but I cannot test... And have no ideas about the sound...

Ash will generally sound a little bit snappier than alder. Mixed with a maple neck you'll have a very lively bass indeed.
