Question L2000 battery life question...

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I replaced the battery in my L2000 fretless about a year ago and didn't really play it until last week. When I have the actives switched on, it's very low and distorted which tells me that the battery has drained out during this time. It was not plugged in, but the toggle was set to active for this period. It sounds great in passive mode, but I want to know when the battery is totally deactivated for any downtime.

So does the active passive switch make the battery non draining in passive mode while in storage? Anyone else have this problem?

It's best to remove the battery from any bass that you know will be stored away for longer than a month or two. It will gradually spend it's charge, even if the switch isn't engaged (it will only fully "kick in" when the 1/4" cable is connected to the bass), and there's the possibility of the battery leaking if it's installed and not being used over a long period of time.

Best idea is to remove the 9V if you know you won't be using the bass for a while.

I've got a Modulus Quantum 6 with a 9v Bart pre in it and it has lasted years both in case and being played. I wonder what the difference is?

Is it stock? The L2K has a jack that removes the ground from the battery so that there is no current drain without being plugged in.

I've measured it. With the exception of the Climax all my G&L's pull 0 current unplugged, 45 microamps plugged in.

If some moe changed the jack and wired it to always be on the battery will be toast in about a year.

Jim
