L2000 owners, I need a small favor

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Climax and I bought a 2nd MDF to add to it to make it like an L2000. Could someone measure the distance from the neck pup to the neck, and the neck pup to the bridge so I can get my position correct?

3 1/4" and 4" is what I get. (front edge to neck and rear edge to start of bridge)

A more accurate and standardized measurement would be one that takes in account scale length (which is non-variable), so using distance from the 12th fret (the end of the neck and bridge placement are probably fairly variable since necks until recently were handmade and bridges have adjustable saddles to get the distances right). That is of course assuming that G&L measures there pickup routers using scale length and not something mundane like distance from the bridge! Mine is 11 13/16" from the headstock edge of the 12th fret to the headstock edge of the neck pickup. Using your measurement, it is 3 3/8" from the neck and 4" from the bridge...It might actually be pretty sweet to put the neck pickup closer to the neck similar to double humbucker Musicman basses, since the Climax pickup is essetially in the Stingray position (farther from the bridge than the bridge pickup on an L2000).

Me, I wouldn't replicate the stock position of the L2000.
I'd push it more towards the neck, and add some real meat to the tone.

Do as you wish though.
It's been done here before, to a 150X. A search will probably find the thread for you.

i own the L-1505. it's awesome. i don't have any measurements for you, but the neck pickup is pushed a little more towards the neck. no complaints. it also has a single mod instead of series for the neck pickup only...

here's a nice dark grainy pic that doesn't even show the beautiful honey burst.

p.s. an L-1500 or climax with the same mod would be my hands down bar none forget the rest desert island bass.

it's sort of arty, tho... right? looking at it makes me want to smoke a cigarette...

Arty:
only if it were really true-to-form black and white, and it had a partially revealed leg, in fishnet hose, wearing 6" spiked heels.

Hey, real art makes no concessions.

Hey guys, thanks to all of you for your input. I'll take a pic and post it when the job is done.

A quick question: Is the 2 way switch series/ single or series/parallel? In the brighter, lower output position I get the hum that is charactericstic of single coil pickups. Something I've read, however, allude to this being cause by a cap or resister in the parallel circuit...I don't know, doesn't compute to me.
