What's the deal with this? Isn't the price a little bit, uhm, steep?

This is well under the Australian RRP. It's a decent buy for somebody in Oz -- no need for international shipping (costs A TON), reassembly, GST, etc., etc.

The standard RRP in aus for tributes is about $1399-$1500 depending on options.

I just put a deposit down for a brand new tribute a bit more expensive that that but well short of the RRP (Big thanks to the guys at Bass People!) . The market down here is far different to the states. All the aussie distributors tend to put a mark up on the price because of freight, customs clearance etc.

To complicate things further, with 21 million people in total in Australia the market for basses has nothing on other countries and area's. The second hand market here is very poor so alot more people by new and hold onto them.

Not really comforting, but the exact same price and music market conditions can be found in Greece. Fortunatelly we can order musical instruments via german or french Online stores, dealing real good prices.
