My neck is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'll try to have it tuned up & playing by Saturday sometime. I'll give a report when I can.

UPDATE:

Moses either forgot to ship it out or didn't get the holes drilled in time. Regardless, they assure me that it will be in my hands by this Friday. Which gives be Saturday to cut a nut, install the neck & do a complete setup before Sunday's performance.

Bugger.

They used to list them as G&L/Musicman necks so apprently the two have the same neck pocket.

It was a bit puzzling to me, since Steve checked & found one in stock, no lines. They were just going to enlarge the tuner holes for the G&L machines & send it out the next day. I really want to be pleased with this neck, so let's hope it lives up to my expectations. As far as tone & quality go, I figure that if Moses fingerboards are good enough for Ned Steinberger EUBs, then it should be good enough for me.

I hope.

I read someone saying that it took so work to get the neck to fit the pocket. I hope yours goes in easily. Keep us posted.

FYI,I have fitted a MOSES fretless neck and, there is quite a bit to it.Like, rolling the fingerboard edge, drilling holes for neckplate, string trees,..etc.In my case I think I could have even went as far as leveling the fingerboard.Well worth the work though,Good Luck!

I know about the string tree & neck mounting holes (to install machine screw inserts) as well as fitting & slotting the nut, but I hadn't heard about the fingerboard edge rolling. Any advice? (thankfully no frets to level!)

Well, for Me I didn't like the feel of the sharp edges on the board.I don't mean cut You sharp but, sharp.

So,I simply"eased" the edge with a fine, flat file then, buffed out everything w/0000 fine steel wool.By"eased" I mean I was going for like a .050 radius on the lower edge of the fingerboard, you may want more or less depending on how You like it.Hope this helps..C.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. How was the neck pocket?

In My case, the neck pocket was spot on and,I ended up mounting it in another body no prob so..but,remember Mine was a standard Fender heel.

I received it on Wednesday. Tuning machines are mounted. Neck pocket looks & fits very well. I'm awaiting a Graph-Tech nut from Stew-Mac, since Moses forgot to include one in the package. (sigh) Once the nut is cut I can bolt the neck on, mount the string tree & start doing a setup.

Were neck mounting holes drilled?

Also, I'm sure folks will love to see the pics of your babe when you assemble it and get it strung ;-) And to hear sound clips, of course!

It's on! Pics to follow. This was not the simplest install, due to my 3-bolt OEM mounting plate. The center hole interferes with the truss rod of the Moses. I'll show you my solution when I get the camera working.

No clips, sorry. I'm poor.

Update: I finally got the nut cut correctly and it changed this bass dramatically. It plays perfectly. It can get warm & woody through modern & spunky. I was worrying about the preamp on the L2k not having enough mid-range options but that has not been an issue. Blooming lows from the neck pickup and punchy, snarling staccato from the bridge. Bakithi tones galore.

I love this bass!
