My nut is displaced?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a beautiful ASAT which I've owned for about a year. I hadn't played it in about 4 days during the oppressive heat wave, but came back to it tonight and I noticed immediately that the nut slid a bit to the right. What happened? and what do I do? it still plays ok, but it is leaving me uneasy. Thanks for your input!!

Take the tension off the strings a bit and slide it back. If you really want it to hold put a few drops of wood glue.

Most likely the heat caused some shifting and if the nut wasn't properly glued down to begin with it just moved. I wouldn't worry about it.

It shifted but it was still glued down? I guess the heat may have caused to glue to loosen up and once it cooled down hardened again.

yeah I think that's what happened. I had the bass in it's case, sitting on its side. I thought it was out of the sun but maybe enough light shown the through the shades to warm it up. It would have to have been pretty hot in the case, as it took some time to get the air dryer to melt the glue. the bass was almost to hot to hold.

Too hot to hold? Damn. You may want to get it in a spot that is not in direct light.
