So, I'm trying to get my black 1989 SB-1 back to its original condition and I'm missing at this point the flat black pick guard and the original el-cheapo knobs.
I'm getting a pick guard for around 50 bucks (which I would love to not pay....if anyone has one they would sell for less).
If anyone has either the two knobs or the black pick guard let me know - either pm me or email me at dtonbass@gmail.com
Thanks so much, I'm in love with my bass....just not the zebra stripe pick guard that's on it (very 80's...in a bad way) |

As you've already discovered, the guard was the easy part (got mine from Chandler).
By chance I found the knobs on eBay. They're tough to come by, but FYI they were also used on the early 80s SC and HG series guitars (as well as SB-2 and Lynx basses), which should help you broaden your search.
In addition to eBay, keep an eye on the marketplace page on the guitarsbyleo site. Never seen 'em there, but there are always random parts listed, so you never know. If you're registered there you could also post a "wanted" ad.
Good luck! |

The knobs are like normal silver knobs but I dont like them as much as the originals on my friends SB-1. I will keep my eyes out on ebay, I just wish someone had a box full of these things laying around!!
I am getting that pick guard from Chandler, I will now be a little less sensitive about playing out with it |

What, they were out of leopard print? |

How the times change........
That pickguard could be hard to remove due to all the hairspray coating the bass
Thanks for posting a pic! |

I literally just sent over the payment for the new pickguard...it really needs it. The guy I bought it from said he basically changed the pickguard right when he got it back in 89, the original no where to be found. So all I need are two knobs and this thing will be amazing, this is a really special bass to me...rock solid and really loud! |

No Idea how a passive pickup can get so much output......
Gotta like that older headstock too, nicer than the eye gouger. |

My friend has an 85 SB-1 and the neck on it is a little thinner, one of the more Jazz type necks. It kills as well, I dont know how sold I am on their other basses but this SB-1 is such a breath of fresh air compared to the standard Fender P-Bass. |
