Neutrik and other plugs...?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am thinking about making up some instrument cables to use with my G&L ASAT bass. I have had trouble with some cables...and I know others have as well.

The jack is Switchcraft (that's G&L OEM)...but the place I buy parts doesn't carry them. Anyone used Neutrik or Dayton or other high quality plugs with G&L? Also curious if anyone has used right angle plugs they like with this beasty?

www.bayoucables.com

Best around, equal if not better than cables priced 3 and 4x higher. Uses G&H plugs which utilize a copper core for better conductivity.

I use Neutrik all the time for cables and they are briliant connectors. I use Neutrik right angle plugs on a couple of leads and love them.

As important is to use high quality cable. Go for a cable with a full knitted braid offering at least 90% sceen coverage and that has a low capacitance and things will be fine. Quality cable comes from manufacturers like Belden and Cannare.

I generally roll my own cables. I get bulk cable from Mark and Liz Hellinger at http://www.audiopile.net/. It's EWI (Korean) and it's some of the best I have used-yup, including Belden. Their quad mic cables can't be beat. I use this instrument cable:

http://www.audiopile.net/products/Mi...D_cutsheet.asp

The 20 footer is $8.50 and it is excellent. Period. I can't save any money building my own...and this one is just as good. I use right angle plugs coming from my bass, then pass the cable between the bass and my strap.

I cannot say enough good things about Mark and Liz-just a little operation, but their candor is amazing. They also market a fine active DI for $50.
