Greetings,
Well, this is a step outside the box for me as I am blind and it pushes my envelope sometimes to work certain websites. However, I have been reading comments in this G&L forum for over a year now and I am pleased and impressed with the knowledge and sharing I've encountered thus far. I have found some very helpful hints and suggestions on how to get as much out of my basses as possible.

My current equipment includes:
A fretted and a fretless L2K (both strung with DR nickel medium light)
An SWR Workingman 12 and a Genz Benz ML 200-210T.

I've been playing for around 44 years and was a "weekend warrior" for a lot of years, with various shows and 6-night-a week gigs thrown in.

For the past 15 years, I've been stroking notes in our church's praise band.

Thank you all for such a wonderful resource and your willingness to share. I may be slow in any responses as there will be a bit of a learning curve for me to work the site effectively. My computer is equipped with speech software that enables me to read the screen.

Welcome aboard. I had no idea that they had such equipment to let blind people read websites. Shows you what I know.
Cool that you chose G&L basses too.
Just so happens that I went to my first saturday evening service at my church tonight where they use two acoustic guitars and a piano. I kept thinking that they could use a bass too.
If there's anything we can help you out with just let us know, it seems you got things pretty well under control with your equipment and gigging.

Hello!

Great to have you on board....my roomate for 4 years during college was also blind. Great friend and definitely a wonderful perspective on life (also a great education for me).

Thanks guys for the welcome response. The G&L's are a real joy to play. I'm still getting used to the fretless however, I got it last Septemberr as I wanted to get back to my roots. I started playing upright bass in high school and of course it was fretless.
I am looking forward to some fun times here on the forum and hopefully, my submissions will come through in an intelligent fashion with my system.
Blessings,
Larry

Everything seems to be working fine. If you hadn't told us about this, we would have no clue that you were using this speech software.
Do you mind if I ask how it works? Do you speak into a microphone and it types the text? And then does it also read our text and speak to you through your computer? I'm an old geezer so I'm not up on the new fangled technology.

Actually, my computer talks to me rather than me talking to it. I use what's called a "screen reader" called JAWS. (Job Applications With Windows Software) which I've been using since 1998, when I made the quantum leap from DOS to Windows.
It truly has more flexibility and complexity than I'll ever use but it certainly gives me another link to the world around me.

JAWS pretty much reads everything on the screen and is manipulated by probably some 300 keystrokes, all of which most users may not use. One finds particular things you want or need to do and after much practice, (like playing an instrument) become facil with the equipment.

I can set the amount of punctuation I desire to hear, have numbers spoken as single digits, in pairs or as words. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

what kind of sailing are you into? Just curious. Even though i live in the midwest, my family has been into sailing since i was a little boy. Now my brother lives on a sailboat on the east coast.

Thanks Jim. I have been reading your comments for some time now and it appears you've developed some real insight into the g&L product. In fact, I attempted to send you an email last year but found that I had to be a registered user to do that.
I haven't figured out yet how to make my email available for others to contact me directly. Still learning how to work the site.

Since 1968, I have done a fair amount of coastal sailing on boats from 22 to 50ft. lately; I've been sailing at least once a month with friends from church in and around San Diego bay.
I have an audio compass; an engineer buddy built for me so that I can take my turn at the helm and keep some reasonable course. If the wind is jus right however, I can sail fairly well with the heel of the boat and the breeze in my face or across my body.
