New G&L Model Coming Out???

Sign in to disble this ad
I was talking to a G&L dealer this morning and he said he was holding off probably on ordering more G&L's until more information came out on a new model to be introduced maybe as early as this summer? Anybody else heard anything?

I've heard something to that effect on another forum. No details, just that the G&L bass fans would have some good news this summer.

It's not the limited edition L-1000?

Maybe I read too much into it, but I took the L-1000 and the Summer NAMM debut to be two different issues. I could be wrong.

EDIT: found the cryptic reference from a dealer in the know: "All I can tell you is you will be very happy after Summer NAMM."

I read this to mean there will be an announcement or debut of somekind at that time. This is probably going to be after the L-1000's ship (strictly a guess). This could also be taken as a "reworking" of an existing model or rerelease of an older one a la L-1000. Who knows. I'm not in the market until then anyway (taxes suck), so I don't really have to fret over the wait.

The dealer that I spoke with alluded to it being maybe a new Jazz type model.

There is nothing wrong with the JB-2 in its current form. My guess would thus be towards the active electronics end of things, since active J-style basses do seem to be an emerging new standard of today, much the way that the original passive J basses of the 60's and 70's were.

Another possibility is a model with the MFD "jazz" pickups like the old SB-2/lynx.

1) ''Nothing wrong with the current JB2...''
I personally disagree. Love the neck. Love the body. Love the fit and finish. Completely unenamoured of the clanky, top end heavy, brittle sounding pickups. A lot could be done here in terms of sonic improvement...at least to my ears.

2) "the active Jazz being a New Standard." The Toro is a great bass. I'd love to see that come back, with some tweaked electronics. Great idea.

Might they be using their shiney new semi-hollow body making router on a bass?

I hope I guessed right. It'd be a shame if I was the one to let you down.

Mmm, something like a SB-2 with a soloable bridge pickup? :-)

What would be really cool is if they took a P-style body and put in jazz pickups. Wait--no! Humbucking pickups...that would be sweet. And then throw in a neat little electronics/preamp of some kind that offered all kinds of tonal options. Then if they gave us a choice of necks & some high-quality finishes I would be in heaven!

Choice of fretboard is offered. Choice of neck, not so much.
