G&L needs a new preamp design imo. The one they have now is next-to-useless tone wise and it eats batteries. Not a big deal since they sound so good passive but you'd think with the audio engineering resources of BBE at their disposal they could come up with a good modern preamp for their basses. | All of the above 'cept the pre-amp.
PLEASE G&L!!!! 19mm spacing option on the 5's!!!!
A bunch of neck options on the 4's, and none on the 5......somethings wrong here!

Don't hold your breath waiting for this. Quote: |

| The current preamp works as-designed. It allows for long cable runs with little noise caused by amp input impedance issues and it doesn't apply undue color to the sound of the MFDs. Despite my ranting & raving elsewhere I could not, in good conscience, recommend that they shelve this preamp. It does what it's supposed to do.
OTOH, I would like to see a more advanced preamp system made available as an option. Four-band active (no para-mids) with pickup blend and the beloved series/parallel switch. It would have to be transparent, adding no color to the tone.

Dave Meadows at audere has already done it, as has 4Mal.
Reports are good.
I agree that there's nothing wrong with what's there; it meets it's design goals well.
I see the G&L "preamp" really as ''passive, with a kick in the pants."

I didn't mean to suggest they can the current pre-amp, just make something new, something exciting. Paying homage to the past can only take you so far.

| It isn't so much about paying homage to Leo & the past, though that is part of it. It's more about building something that works. This means that the current preamp ain't going anywhere in a hurry. OTOH, it doesn't mean that G&L isn't aware of what we like & don't like.

The neck on it was pretty dreamy too; but, not really any nicer than my late 2001(?) JB2-which is very nice.
The Lakland 5's are a very comfortable width and depth. Super easy to play.
One the one hand, I wonder how much of a horrific pain in the a** it would be to graft one onto my 2500...on the other hand, pretty sure the string spacing would be wrong.

I know this is a personal preference thing, but it seems like the 2500 necks don't get much love. Admittedly, they are thicker, but I find mine to be very comfortable and easy to play.
