Here is the G&L L2500 that I just got yesterday. Ain't she a beauty? I've been looking for the right G&L 5er for months and my search finally paid off.

I bought it from Chuck at Mahars Vintage Guitars and Sound Source in Chico, CA. I believe it was on consignment there. I'll be checking there before buying any instrument again.

Thanks. I've been looking at so many of these that I actaully responded that it was Ash but it's American Tilia which I understand is a basswood. I'm not too familiar with this type. Does anyone have info or opinions on Tila?

basswood is a cheaper wood, and lighter in some cases, it has similar tones to alder or ash some say, allot of companies use it on cheapo instruments, but sometimes they use it to make the instrument weigh less, like G&L some of their L2500's will have i think an ash top with basswood behind it, and i think they might have done that to make it weigh less, or The ernie ball music man Bongo is made from basswood, i am not sure on their reason why though, but just because something is made from basswood, does not make it bad either, the only down side of that wood is that it can be a little soft, thus denting more easy, but in the case of the Bongo they used a thick coating in the paint to keep that from happening some kind of acrilic i think?

They are using basswood in Bongo because this wood gives a more even and flat response: it's optimal for the new preamp to show it's pros. You know this gag about MM: "Preamp-with-strings" But in the case of Bongo I should admit that this conception really kicks
Besides there is "basswood" and "basswood"
