Finally! I got my lovely Sunburst G&L Tribby L2000!
I am on a tight budget, but this amazing Bass makes me VERY happy!
Nice made and finish, great and versatile tone, proper action !
It is different from any standard P or J bass guitar, due to the three interesting switches. So I have to learn to how to setting the tone up! |

| | | | I'm very happy with G&Ls QA. Definitely among the best I've ever seen. All of the G&L instruments I've tried or ordered are nothing short of amazing.
You've made a good decision - my L-2000 (USA) has become my main bass over my fender Precision and my modified SX Jazz. |

| | | | Thanks for the reply.
By the way, could you advise what is the typical setting for L2000 to sound like a Fender Precision and Jazz bass, respectively? |

| ...it will never sound just like a Precision or Jazz. It is a Leo Fender design, but it's a large evolutionary step forward from the 50's/60's designs that were and continue to be the Fender Precision and Jazz. It's also an evolutionary step forward from the early StingRay basses; also a Leo Fender design. The G&L L series basses have their own unique voice that really should be fully explored.
Having said that, it is possible to get close. For an approximate P sound; neck pickup, parallel, passive, treble rolled way back, bass about 80%, volume no more than 80%. For an approximate J sound: both pickups, parallel, passive, treble & bass about 80%, volume no more than 80%, maybe some mid scoop on the amp.

| | | Sorry my bad!
I have put the picture on the show-off thread, but I think it deserves another picture here.
Actually I quite like the head stock. |

The neck pickup is fun for a thick bluesy sound and the bridge pickup could cut through anything! It is kind of a shame that you can only select pickups and not blend them as they have VERY different characters.
Series mode I find to just have a bit more output and a bit less clarity. I guess you could call it more "vintage" sounding?
These are, without a doubt, the most underrated basses out there. Well maybe unknown is more fair than underrated because everyone that tries one usually loves it. |

| | | | amen. I have the same bass and I love it. |

| | | | just got mine yesterday and tried it at the rehearsal. I didn't fall in love, but see there is a lot of tweaking, with the multiple possibilities(18 pickups + preamp setting combinations, without counting the tone settings), to do before you find your own sound setting. to me it sound close to fender, but definitely not like a ray.
the tone (treble & bass) pots felt a bit strange compared to all active basses I tried, I mean the effect they have on the sound. it feels more like the tone on a passive bass, separated in two frequencies. anyone else has this impression?
Anyway, this bass is REALLY nice for its price! and kind of a swiss army knife for a bass player |

They are actually cut-only passive controls. The treble control is the same as the tone control on passive basses, and the bass controlworks in the same manner, cutting on the bass frequencies.
