New L1000!!!

Just wanted to share this with you...

After owning a couple of L2000, which I sold because of weight (hog), I finally returned to my favourite brand. I tried an old L1000 3 weeks ago, but the price of the shop wasn't right. By coincidence I found a 1980 CAR beaten up L1000 on Ebay.

Receied it this week and it passed the weight test, as well as the tone test... Man its like my P, but better and more buttery.

Serial number is B001169. Will get pictures up later tonight (camera battery is dead).

Marco, I'm glad I'm not the only one who compares L-1000s to a P-Bass. I love my 1980 mahogany/ebony L-1000. Mine has a HUGE sound. Like a P on steroids.

Next week after some time I'm going to install flats on these...

Anyone care to share his/her view about what flats are best? Or stick to rounds because it already sounds great?

If you are happy with rounds, then why fix something that's not broken.

However, if you want to try flats, my choice would be TI jazz flats. They sound great on my L 2000. They are expensive but last for years. They do have very low tension though, which does not suit everyone.

D'Addario Chromes sound great on my Trib and they are considerably less expensive than TI Jazz Flats. TI's do get a lot of love on TB and have a rep for lower tension.

You will need the extra long Chromes for the Trib and you'll need to string the B through the bridge only and all the other strings through the body. Only two screws in the bridge and the strings help hold the bridge down. B is too thick to string through.

Another vote for Chromes here. I have them on my L-1000 and they sound great.

Nice bass! Red is a good color.

I don't see a B string on his L1000...

The three major flavors are D'Addario Chromes, which are nice enough strings, but, don't have the Motown Sound in the same way the LaBellas do. TI Flats are nice enough, but as some have already noted, very low tension. I'm one of the guys who doesn't care for that. Sadowsky make some very nice flats.

I have a similar beat up L1000. I mostly use TI's but the action on this bass is too low for TI's and I don't want to raise it. I put Pyramid Gold on (I know they're expensive) and the sound is tube like old school and great for my blues band.

I previously had DR Hi Beam Flats which are a little like chromes with less tension and this setup was perfect for classic rock stuff I do.

I also agree with Chef that Sadowsky makes a great flat and so does LaBella, all under $40 and they last forever.

So I installed La Bellas (043 > Gstring) because I like the tension more.
The TI's stay on the P.

Sounds really, really good. Good flatwound almost woody sound, with some nice low end.

Maybe next week I'll take her tot the studio! I will definitely post some soundclips then...

(O, and I forgot to mention, the neck on this bass is amazing... Better then any other brand I've owned - after all these years...Leo got it right, allright)
