Hi All,
After playing (en trading/selling) many basses (Alembic, Warwick, MM, new fender MIA, 70-ies MIA, Ken Smith, new G&L) i've finally 'met' my match:
My new 198x L2K... It just blows away ANYTHING i've ever heard.
Even the Ken... It's got more mellow feel/tone than the new ones, more vintage vibe, not so agressive... Thursday i'll take it to a band situation and see how ractions are going to be!
Question:
The serial is B009660, bodycolor is white, and has a black bridge and contol plate (old headstock to). I'm curious to know whether this combination is usual for these basses
Post some better pics tomorrow when i have a camera.
Got this one from Matt Umanov. Excellent service!
Def. member of the club now...

Some of us just finished a thread about "Body wood on opaque G&L body color" that started on an L1K of just a little earlier date than yours, but w/a black bridge. Check it out at: Body Wood on 1980 opaque G&L?

Here are some pics of mine...
I played this in oktober when i was visiting NY. By januari I was still regretting not buying the bass. Since I'm from Europe, I mailed with Matt Umanov, and when they still had it, bought it immediately. They shipped it and her it is... http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj244/marcodemeijer/
I'll take the neck off in a week or so, to check for the neckdate, but guess it should be round 82/83

| | | Excuse me for not knowing the difference...
Whats crinkle? |

The crinkle is like a black texured finish. Like an orange peel. |

| | | | OK, Its crinkle...
And has someone already said that the combination of an All Tube amp and MFD's is about as good as it gets... |

I have found a published option sheet for G&Ls in 1981, and they list poplar as a wood option. So, even thought there's no hint of greenish in the grain of this wood, I'm changing my assessment to poplar, and also a guy with an opaque swamp ash suggested that you could see the grain in the polyurethane. That makes sense, and as there's no grain ripples in my finish, that again tends to suggest poplar.
Pictures of the bass are here, if you'd like to compare with yours or have any additional observations. I also notice that there's a color option on the G&L registry at guitarsbyleo.com, Vintage White. I don't know exactly what that means.
What does your bass weigh? Mine is 9 lbs. 9 (or 10) oz., hard to say exactly because my wife's postal scale doesn't like it when you have to have a hand on the bass to keep it from falling over. Ya know, sometimes analog is still the best way to measure things.

| | | | Marco, that is my bass - exactly, so it can't be too unusual!
Great bass, neh? |
