Just found a used american l2000 for myself after playing a Modulus Quantum 4 as my main bass for a few years- I was getting tired of the sound and was not able to get the deep woody thump I have been looking for- man does the l2000 deliver. First time playing plugged in was at rehearsal when I found out the battery was dead so I used passive mode- ass kicking, sweet vintage wood growl. And the bridge pickup sounds good! I have stayed away from that on the modulus, and am happy to have three pickup choices combinations that all sound lovely. Active and series modes sound good too but I find myself loving the passive for its natural, deep tone, I think I'm compensating for years of perfect-clean moddy tone. I think its an alder body, with 3 tone burst, rosewood fingerboard, fair amount of dings and light scratches. I wanted an ash/maple combination but couldn't wait for one to come around-I'm happy with the alder/rosewood, it sounds great. maybe I'll get a second with the other combo. The action is fairly high so I tried tightening the trussrod and it seems to max out when there is still relief and action is medium-- to further lower it would the next adjustment be at the bridge? I may just leave it, I've been enjoying some extra thump and dig from the higher action I just wanted to try it out low too. I'd post pictures except I don't have a camera sorry! glad to be in the club, I'm afraid I'm already dreaming about how good a fretless L2000 would sound.

I regret selling my L2000 ........

Do a search on the "washer trick" to solve maxing out on the truss rod. Placing a few washers under the truss rod nut will give you some extra turns to flatten the neck more. Used this trick on one of my SB-2's and it solved the problem.

Just a really quick FYI:

The washer technique is great when you just barely miss getting the relief in spec, but may cause warp issues otherwise because it can allow you to excessively compress the wood of the neck. It may also allow over-tightening of the trussrod which can cause it to break, and that is way ugly.

If you're really mashing down on the trussrod and the action is still too high, it might be worth a visit to a qualified tech to have a look-see at neck tilt and the depth of the nut slots. A small and careful adjustment to one or both can many times allow the trussrod to be loosened a bit, therefore giving you future adjustability without a visit to the tech.
