Have you guys been seeing the new Tribute headstocks? I heard several months ago that they were going with the regular G&L logo and putting "Tribute series" in small letters. It looks like they're doing transparent backs now too! http://cgi.ebay.com/G-L-L2500-Premiu...QQcmdZViewItem
Do you guys like the idea or not? I like it enough that it makes me kick myself a little bit for not waiting, but it's not that big of a deal really.
I just got a Tribute (with the old stlye headstock) a few weeks ago and it looks and plays outstanding. I'd want to upgrade to a USA version, but I'm having a hard time convincing myself to since the Trib sounds awesome. The only reason I'd order a new USA version would be to get the color combo I want (black with natural wood binding and a maple neck - either birdseye or gun oil tint orbrdseye/gun oil tint). Mmmmm... |

I'm not ashamed that my Tribute by G&L isn't a **real** G&L. It's sure as hell a real enough bass.

It was excellent makes me really wonder is an american one worth $600.00 more |

A couple of years ago I checked out a US made G&L L2500 and thought it was great. A few months ago I finally played a Tribute and although somehow it must have escaped from the finish quality control people it sounded awesome. The body wood was horribly mismatched and the routing for the pickups was oversized enough to allow ventilation, but it did sound awesome. And before I get jumped on I know this ugly one I tried out is not the norm.
Anyway....I ended up ordering a US made L2500 on Easter weekend. The colour selection for the Tributes is limited and there's no way you can get a matching headstock as yet. So for the price of getting a Tribby refinished I decided to spring for the MIA.

Anyways i think that would be neat if they made the tribute smaller, not that there is anything wrong with it being the size it was/is. Only tributes ive seen have it in a large size.. |

I get tons of compliments about it's sound and it plays like my old Jazz, maybe a little better. I leave my EB SRV in the rack for backup. That's a pity too, since it's brand new. I just cannot coach the sound out of it the Tribby offers. So I really don't care if it says Tribute, made in Korea or anything else. The prestige is in the final product for me. The sound.

You won't get matching headstocks or natural wood bindings; but you get a kick-butt workhorse that does nail the G&L tone and feel as far as I can tell. Hell, they're using the same pickups and ash bodies (well, for premium models). The fancy domestic options are really just gravy (albeit is, pretty snazzy gravy!). I'd love to eventually have a domestic L2500 with gun-oil Birdseye maple neck and board, with see-thru white finish with matching headstock. However, blowing the kind of cash that it would take to get a beauty like that for me right now would flat out be stupid when I can get a Tribute for a fraction of the price. Now down the road when a certain student loan is paid up and I'm scoring more happening gigs, then we'll talk about buying my dream G&L. But for now I think a Tribute more than fits the bill (unless I get pretty damn lucky and score a domestic L2500 on eBay on the cheap!).

I've played several gigs now with my Tribute L-2500 and I can't get over the tone! I plan to someday order a USA one to my exact specs, but for now the Tribute kills! Just the other day a guy that plays a mean jazz bass told me that he loved my tone! What he heard out in front was my L-2500 through the DI from my Eden WT550 (a great head for G&Ls!). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
