These are the new tribute basses. These will be the only finishes and fingerboards available on them apparently.

SB-2

Lefty L-2000

2007 will be exciting.

i got one of the new 2007 L2k tributes last week (right handed, though). natural finish, rosewood fingerboard. plays like a dream. the logo on the headstock is nicer than the old version, i think. unfortunately i don't currently have access to a digital camera, so no pics yet...

Why no tone control on the SB-2?

That bass is meant to keep things simple. So only 2 knobs (like a P bass).

The bridge pickup acts somewhat like a tone control. Often folks have a P type bass and always leave the tone full on anyhow.

If you do that with you P type bass an SB-2 will shine for you.

Anyone know if it'd be possible to get that black SB-2 with maple fretboard through local dealer? Wouldn't matter to me if decal said JB2? Or should I then buy both, swap necks and sell JB-2?

I recently got the US version of that bass- all black w/ matching headstock + unmarked Ebony board. It kills!

Matching headstock would be effin' killer. I wish I could afford a US. But the tribute is more in my price range right now. I need a back-up bass for my SB-2 sunburst.

Mind if I ask where your purchased it from?

If I had the money I'd buy the black SB2 and the burst JB2, then swap necks!

The SB-2 would be my metal axe and the JB-2 for personal practice and taking to lessons.

I got it from a place called "NitroTone Music" on Ebay. It was one of those "Buy it Now or Best Offer" auctions and I offered what I thought to be a ridiculously low price ($925 I believe- and with free shipping, their Buy it Now price was $1200!) because the bass was so hot! They took the offer, and now I have the most badass SB-2 on the block!

So I asked my local G&L dealer this, he said he can't. Fair enough.

I asked this too, and he replied: 'I doubt that those necks are interchangable. This strikes me as odd, 'cause the neck dimensions are exactly the same!?

What do you guys think. Can they be swapped out?
Man I hate G&L for not bringing out a tribute SB-2 with a maple fretboard!!!
I swear I have had dreams of me playing that black tribute with a maple neck!

They actually have a store in Cambridge, MA right near Harvard. The guys that owns it seems like a pretty nice person. If I ever get a a Tribute it will be from NitroTone.

Congrats on the new bass!
