Nut materials for G&L basses

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought my L-2500 (2nd owner) and I was told by the previous owner that G&L's standard nut is made of Corian, which is cool. I searched hi and low on G&L's web site and can't find any info of the standard nut. I'm just trying to confirm the info. Anyone else?

I have been unable to find any documentation on this question. It was always my thought that the G&L nuts were plastic. On my last bass shopping trip, I played a 3TSB L-2500 that I was considering. When I played a note on the B-string, the string felt terribly sloppy. A look at the nut revealed a chip out of it that allowed the B to come out of its "notch". It sure looked like conventional plastic to me.

It would seem a bit disappointing if a maker with the overall build quality of G&L is not using a more suitable nut material. I am interested in hearing any other input on this question.

RE: Nut material

I put an email into Chris (sevice manager) at G&L to get a real answer. He said "Most of our standard nuts are Micarta.
An excellent synthetic bone substitute, tan in color; Ivory in color and a bit softer than bone, it files and sands easily and gives a uniform tone." Now we know!

I also relied with another question about Ash and Tilia (? spelling) wood used on my L-2500 (US). The G&L web site advertises: "BODY WOOD Alder on Standard and all solid finishes, Swamp Ash on all Premier finishes". Some folks here on this forum claim Tilia has been used since 200? ? Does anyone else have info that disputes that?
