| oil finish on an L2000

hey gang, I aquired a clear blue early 90's L2000 from a friend for a very very very low price. Plays awesome, but i am not crazy about the finish. Its got scratches, cig burns the works. but like i said its a great player. i was thinking of stripping it, and doing an oil finish on the swamp ash body. for a nice natural look, but more unique than a clear gloss coat. any thoughts on this? has anyone ever seen an oil finished G&L? thanks for any advice.
