I understand why you G&L guys are G&L guys, now.

I played the old mahogany/ebony L-1000 last night at the gig. HOLY MAN WHAT A SOUND! These things are HUGE sounding basses. I Love it! The guys in the band love it, too. I'm seriously considering buying another G&L, now. I'm so glad I stumbled across this old girl of mine.

I am curious if the newer models sound as good.

It's kind of insidious, isn't it?

Well, golly, I guess you'll just have to try a few!

Just as two pairs of the same shoes will feel a little different, every bass will have a unique tone. The new basses generally don't sound exactly like the old ones, but they are clearly G&L.

Glad you re-found them!

Nothing sounds the same as an L1000; and as Ken noted, even they can sound very different from each other.
This 1980 is just huge, round, warm:

The 1981 one the right is similar, yet sublty different:

This 1981 is completely different. Bright, snappy, punchy.

I don't have any idea who sells them, locally. I'm up for a search, though. I'm completely baffled as to why G&Ls aren't more popular.

Chef, That's how I would describe my 1980 L-1000: huge, round and warm. Just lovely! I think the mahogany/ebony has an effect on that. I'm very interested in trying some of the others, now.

I want another L-1000 like this one!
