Passive vs. Active G&L's?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi. Sorry if this topic has already been addressed time and time again....but...

Is the only 100% passive G&L bass the SB-1? Or is the SB-2 also 100% passive?

I know the L-2000 is passive or active....

Can someone help? Thanks.

Yes, the SB-2 is 100% passive as is the JB-2.

Currently produced, the JB-2 and SB-2.

In the past, all generations of L-1000, a very short lived passive L-2000, SB-1, SB-2, L-5000, Lynx, and JB-2. were all 100% passive.

Most every model I know of can run passive but I'm not sure on the L-5500 since I never had one. I know it was active but dunno if it ran passive and still had full EQ control like every other active/passive G&L does.

The L5500 had EMG pickups, which are active only.

I have a JB-2 which is completely passive... its a beautiful bass & plays nice by I'm spoiled by my other active basses. The most important thing in having a "hotter bass" is that I can lug less powerful amplification around and still get enough volume. I'm thinking about installing an active pre-amp. Please let me know if you have any opinions, suggestions.
Thanks!

Can you turn up the pre-amp gain on your amplifier instead?

Don't forget the somewhat rare LB-100. Also all-passive.
