Punch from a JB-2

How does one get a thumpy punch sound from a JB-2 or is it only really best with a SB-2 or L-2000?

It will never pack the same wallup as the MFD basses.

You could try some flats (JB-2's love flats), and a BDDI in front to juice the signal. Works for me.

LaBella 760FL flats; neck pickup all on, bridge pickup dialed back to about 90%.

Does an SB-2 really have that much more punch and clarity over JB-2?

I get...

Great punch melded with the j-vibe from my JB-2. I use TI jazz rounds for strings coupled with an all-tube power section - jazz bass heaven.

I get decent punch from my JB-2 using TI Jazz Flats and putting the pickup volume knobs at about 80-90% neck & about 20-40% bridge (if my memory is correct...).

Awesome bass. If I'd never discovered the SB-2, it would probably be gigging more.

hth.
