Question about the battery

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, if the battery in my L2000 dies while I'm in active mode, can I just switch to passive and keep everything still running smoothly? Also, do I even need to keep a battery in there, say if I'm out of 9 volts at the time?

Yes, the switch actually physically switches the output around the preamp. Even the bass and treble controls still work.

You got it. G&L's don't need a battery in them at all unless you want to use the active modes.

That was one of the reasons that sold me on G&L in the first place--you can still get through the gig.

So why did I end up buying an SB-2?

Nice, I can rest easy at my gig today. I haven't ever changed the battery and I got the bass in July 2005...

here's another question:

if i keep the bass in passive mode and keep the instrument cable plugged in, will it still drain the battery?

No- the active/ passive switch on the L2000 also cuts the battery circuit connection- so, if it's not in active mode the battery will not drain...

Yep. The stereo jack on the 2K has 3 wires, signal, ground, and battery ground. When you plug in the cord the sleeve shorts ground to battery ground and the battery begins to drain.

FWIW I've tested and it drains at about 50 microamps in the 2K but 200 microamps in the Climax.

Sorry Carl wrong again. You can however flip the switch to active with no cord and it will not drain the battery.

Ya lucky man, you get a free Iron Maidens show at 3 Kings Tavern on the 26th.

Really? I heard before that it would still drain the battery as long as the bass is plugged in.

Ok. spidey confirmed it.
