Question about birdseye Maple Fretboards

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I am new to G&L basses and I recently got a 2007 ASAT with a birdseye maple fretboard. Do the warranties cover that for only 90 days or is that just for birdseye maple necks on guitars... The g&l website left me uncertain. I love the bass and it plays really well but I've heard lots of bad things about birdseye maple being unstable. Whats gonna happen? Thanks!

oh yeah! it looks wonderful. I will post a picture soon. Anyhow, the neck does that thing where the action at the first fret is lower than the action at the 12 fret and 21st fret. I guess it would benefit from a set up, though it came playing wonderfully. I got the #6 neck and its the best neck I've played ever.

I just had my ASAT neck replaced under warranty. It originally had a birds eye fretboard, but most everyone involved in the process (from G&L to my luthier) felt the birds eye fretboard contributed to the failure of the neck. For the record it was also a 3 bolt, bi-cut neck as well.

Mine was an '05 & I bought it new, so they honored the warranty.

I do love this bass & I have to say that the birds eye was gorgeous & I was bummed about losing it.

Before & after pictures:

If you have problems contact Chris Robeson (sp?) at G&L. He's in charge of warranty repairs there & is a top notch guy.
