Question for ASAT Semi-Hollowbody Owners...

Sign in to disble this ad
The ASAT Semi-Hollowbody I purchased arrived on Friday. It is a beautiful bass with a three tone sunburst finish, body binding on the front and back and binding on the neck.

The sound of this bass is awesome and the neck plays great, however I'm having a little trouble finding a comfortable position to play it when I'm using a strap. The problem is, since there is has no body contour, with the way I play, the body cuts into the bottom of my forearm. I tried it at different heights to see if I could alleviate it, and nothing seemed to work.

This may sound strange, but I wrapped a towel around my arm to cushion where it hits the bass and it worked fine, no discomfort at all...even though it looks pretty dorky with a towel wrapped around my arm. I'm thinking about buying one of the thicker terrycloth sport sweat bands to see it that will work instead of the towel.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they may have done to overcome it.

I got some advice from a thread on another forum that I followed through on tonight. I went out and bought a terry cloth wristband that is about 4-5" thick. It cushions my arm where it rests on the bass and it makes the ASAT much more comfortable for me to play. I'm glad I was able to find a solution, because the bass is awesome. Good luck with yours...

Dave

I've either gotten used to it or have an invisible callous. It bothered me for the first few months of playing but I don't think about it anymore. Kind of reminds me of an old Gibson Ripper--essentially a block of wood with strings mounted to it.
