Question on my finish

Sign in to disble this ad
I dont have a camera right now but I would like to know what kind of top/finish is on my G&L. It is red, looks semi transparent, but it has a very pretty swirl texture to it. Does anyone know what kind of top/finish it could be?

That is the long discontinued "swirl" finish. Sometimes people refer to it as a bowling ball finish. There were various colors

Real stunning in person, but really fragile. The slightest ding can cause all sorts of problems.

haha yea you should see the looks I get when I pull that thing out of its case. I get musicians and non-musicians alike drooling over the finish. plus it plays nice. Its actually probably the most valuable thing I own. Does anyone know approximately how much its worth if its in MINT condition.

What body wood did they use for the swirl finishes?

Good question. My 2500 was likely tilia on ash to save weight. No clue what the default wood was for the 4 stringers. Maybe ash, surely the Swirls were an upgrade or "premier" finish.
