Ok Ive just tightened the truss rod slightly, but have noticed that there isnt much turnage of the rod, and it doesnt seem to grip after the turn...(1/8th)

Any help? Thanks

Have it looked at by a qualified tech or luthier.

Sounds as though the trussrod has run out of adjustment.

Ok thanks Ken, I think this is quite a young bass, maybe 2005? Just had it a month. Its fantastic all the same, but I will show it to a tech...

serial is CLF36723, any ideas of age?

Cheers

A search of the GbL Registry in the range CLF36650 to CLF36850 finds three guitars that have been dated 2005 - all with question marks.

As always, the only way to get close is by pulling the neck and checking for neck and/or body date(s).

To expand on "Take it to a tech"... above.

If the trussrod nut feels as though it's tightening down only on itself and running out of threads, the instrument needs to be looked at by a pro. An appropriately sized washer or two under the trussrod nut may be all that is needed, but there could be crushed wood under the nut. If that is found, a good luthier will probably have options for you to consider.

If you're tightening down on the trussrod and it isn't altering the bow of the neck, it needs to be looked at. This could be an indication of wood crushing under the trussrod nut or even stripped threads. Again, a good luthier will have options for you.

A known-good luthier is Michael Dolan of Dolan Custom Guitars in Santa Rosa. You might start with a local tech and move up as necessary.

Thanks for the reply Ken. I am actually in the UK. I think the small turn did alter the neck, which is only fractionally out, and now is better.

There are several luthiers In my town of Manchester, so wiull seek their advice, and thanks for yours!

Benn

Hi Ken

Afetr reading other posts about truss's, I have realised mine is seized, as it wont undo either...I have tried a little WD40 to no avail. This is a 3 year old bass, is this normal!!?

I would also like to lower the NUT height, so really I need to go see my local luthier!

It's not normal for any age bass.

Well, then. At least you get to consolidate trips!

Hope it works out well.

My bass is now at the luthiers under the knife, for a general setup. including truss setup and reprofiling the nut, and new strings. Cant wait to have her back... gonna play like a dream!

Very cool!

Of course, we'll expect a full review of the results.
